Event Details
Dillsburg has more Civil War history then what most residents know. Although we didn't have a huge battle like Gettysburg did, Dillsburg answered the call in a huge way during the war. In the borough itself, out of the 65 military aged men, all but 9 went to war. There are several regiments that were made up of men from Dillsburg and the surrounding townships. Some of these more well know ones are the 87th, 200th, 209th and other regiments. However, the first residents of the Dillsburg area that enlisted went to the Pennsylvania Reserves. The 12th Regiment, Company G was from York County, with our very own Samuel N. Bailey as it's first captain. Also many from the area joined the 7th Regiment, Company H out of Mechanicsburg. The Pennsylvania Reserves would play a humongous part in the American Civil War and get very little notoriety for it. This program is to talk about the brave boys from the Dillsburg area that helped form and fight in the Pennsylvania Reserves.
