Program Description

Event Details

Celebrating a number of monumental songwriters and singers of “people’s music” who have made vital contributions to U.S. culture, including Bob Dylan, Kris Kristofferson, Woody Guthrie, Bruce Springsteen, Pete Seeger, and Tom Waits. Each 90-minute performance will focus on the songs/music of a particular artist and include commentary, discussion, projected lyrics, and some visual revelations shared by guitarist, singer, and West Chester University professor, Doug Morris. There will be opportunities in each case for some singing along and possibilities for exploring various percussion instruments. Singing along will be encouraged! Creating and sharing some collective joy will be one of the hoped for outcomes for each “Paragons of People’s Music” program. All are welcome.

Part 3 (September 18): Bruce Springsteen (a paragon of people’s music) will turn 75 on September 23rd. Join us for a celebration of Bruce’s birthday and his contributions to U.S. culture, especially music culture. Bruce and the E Street Band have been performing for over fifty years. Bruce has written over 500 songs and many have become classics, including: “Darkness on the Edge of Town;” “The Promised Land;” “Dancing in the Dark;” “Born in the USA;” “The River;” “Thunder Road;” “Youngstown;” “The Rising;” “Born to Run;” “Atlantic City;” “Land of Hope and Dreams;” “Badlands;” etc., etc.
