This lecture will discuss the current concern about a possible terrorist possession of a nuclear weapon, and the mission of the Department of Homeland Security and the Intelligence Community to prevent a terrorist nuclear attack. It will include the possible techniques that terrorists could use to transport a nuclear weapon, types of intelligence, detection capabilities, the technical and operational approaches to intercept a weapon, and conclusions.

John Ricca served for 22 years in the U.S. Army and 35 years as a civilian working for the federal government as a weapons of mass destruction and counter-terrorism analyst. His specialties are nuclear physics and health physics. John currently serves as an on-call senior technical advisor for the Departments of Defense and Homeland Security.
