Program Description

Event Details

The time of "Covid" produced some quality downtime for some people. During this time Jay McGinnis read two books on the relationship between art and time, "The Images of Time" by Robin Le Poidevin and "Painting 1909" by Leonard Folgarait, and from this reading he has developed the program "Representation of Time." He will define the conceptual changes of time made at the end of the 19th century and how they influenced visual art of the 20th century through the philosophy of William James, Henry Bergson, Gertrude Stein, Paul Cezanne, Pablo Picasso, and George Braque.

McGinnis has been fascinated by art from his early childhood. While a student at York Country Day School, his art teacher encouraged his interest with trips to many major art museums, the BMA, MOMA, the Met, and the Barnes Collection in Philadelphia. Later he obtained a BFA in sculpture at Carnegie Mellon University. Today he builds architectural fans that are sold all over the world. His love for art has not gone unnoticed as he now serves on both the accession committee and the board of the PDPS (paper, drawing, and photograph society) at the Baltimore Museum of Art.
