Program Description

Event Details

“How to Say a Life: A Writing Workshop” is a three-part program that will teach you how to “say a life,” whether that is an obituary honoring someone who has already passed, a celebratory message for someone who is still with us, or an encapsulation of what your life means.

You can register for all three sessions or come to the ones that work for you. Each session will begin with an introductory lesson on the writing craft, provide time to write, and end with sharing your writing (at your comfort level) and realizations with your fellow participants.

Each session will feature a unique aspect to flow your writing process:

  • October 4
    • A guest will join us to explain how a celebration of life and death is approached more positively in other cultures
  • November 1
    • Guest author Tony Fredericks will join us to give advice and feedback on writing what you know
  • December 6
    • Guest therapist Andrea Love-Sanders will join us to tap into our memories using aromatherapy

At the end of the workshop, participants will have the choice to display their “life celebration” written pieces in an exhibit in Martin Library’s atrium.

The workshops are taught by local author Nicole Watt.
